If you have any old mobile phone handsets that you no longer use, you can earn some extra cash by recycling them. Mobile phone recycling is important because it prevents the harmful chemicals that are within mobile handsets being released into the environment when they are disposed of.

Recycling a mobile phone is easy. For example, if you wish to recycle a Nokia phone, simply visit the Mazuma Mobile website and click on the Nokia logo. Then, tell Mazuma the model number that corresponds to your handset, and they will quote how much they will pay you for it. They will then send you a freepost envelope for you to send them your phone. After they receive it, the recycling process begins.

Firstly, the phones are dismantled into their constituent parts (flash memory, plastic, metals and the housing) and sorted. Even the packaging used to send the phone can be recycled. The phone batteries contain nickel which can be recycled into stainless steel, and even made into new batteries once the cadmium is removed. Phone circuit boards contain precious metals like gold, silver and copper, which can be used for a variety of applications, as well as reducing the world’s dependency on metal mining. Any plastic that the phone is made from can be melted down and used to make new phone casings, beverage bottles, carrier bags and a whole host of other plastic items.
